The manipulators feature two sample positions. One primary stage featuring the 5- or 6-axes motion, and a secondary 4-axes stage usually occupied by a reference pin (for evaporating with Au).

Open Cycle Sample Manipulators

A Complete Range for High Resolution ARPES Requirements

ARPES

  • Lowest temperatures from < 3.5 K
  • 4 to 6 fully motorized axes
  • Fast cooling rate < 15 min (open cycle) from RT to 10 K
  • Very low He flow rate (< 1 l/h)
  • Counter heating for temperature control

These state-of-the-art cryo manipulators have proven ARPES performance and have 4 to 6 motorized axes. These open cycle manipulators reach the lowest possible temperatures for high experimental energy resolution, are free from vibrations, while maintaining extremely low liquid Helium consumption. With fast temperature ramps and numerous options these cryo manipulators cover a complete range of experiments.

The lowest possible sample temperatures are necessary for ultra-high energy resolution setups. The Extreme 4-axes Open Cycle Cryo Manipulator achieves guaranteed temperatures lower than 3.5 K, including counter-heating capability. This low base temperature yields a minimal thermal broadening of 1 meV. This is ideally combined with a high energy resolution analyser, like the DFS30-8000 and DA30-L-8000, and a narrow bandwidth light source such as the VUV5k and VUV Laser.

The samples are mounted on a flag style sample holder. The included counter heating and PID temperature control provide fast ramping and excellent temperature stability necessary to study temperature dependent phenomena such as superconduction.

More Information

Open Cycle Versions

The lowest achievable sample temperatures depend on the cooling power and the number of axes.

Cooling System

Open cycle manipulators reach lower temperature specifications than closed cycle manipulators and are rapidly cooled down from room temperature to 10 K in 15 min. The low He consumption below 1 l/h at ultimate temperature (0.5 l/h at 10 K) and the possibility to operate with liquid nitrogen at higher temperatures ensure low operating costs.

Options

The primary stage can be complemented with a 4 axes secondary sample stage replacing the Au sample reference position. Options for back gating and with multiple electrical contacts allow to conduct in-operando measurements.

Optionally an angular test device, YAG crystal for photon alignment, 2-slot sample parking station, or sample cleaving station can be mounted below the sample and outside of the cryoshield. Even an e-beam heating stage reaching up to 1000 K without affecting the primary stage temperature is available.
