Non-equilibrium material properties bear enormous potential and are just at the beginning to be understood. Furthermore, the continuous miniaturization of devices reaches the nanometre limit where the quantization of electronic and phononic states as well as interface properties modify the device performance. Driving materials and governing energy relaxation, both on ultrashort time and nanometre length scales, are therefore highly relevant and in the focus of this meeting.
